What do I mean by ‘Stars in their Words’?

To write a song, compose the music and perform it is a art within its own right, this needs to be supported so this is a competition to encourage this art of songwriting for all its creativeness and for the expressiveness,

"music should go right through you, leave some of itself inside you, and take some of it with you when it leaves" (Henry Threadgill)

Some great prizes to be won, Cash, recording time, slots at some of the leading Leicester festivals. Even your CD cover professionally designed by leicester graphic designers, a photography session......more to be announced, after the initial first prize and runners up there will also be some separate prizes/awards choosen by the judges.

The Rules

We haven’t finalized the rules as yet, but basically

The competition is open to anyone living or working in Leicestershire what ever their age.

It is Acoustic based and all material Must be Original, we are allowing up to 4 people in one application.

All Microphones, PA etc will be provided, entrants responsible for own instruments.

The competition is free to enter, in event of performing in the heats all songs will be recorded for the benefit of the judges; each performer will have to sign a disclaimer to allow Sunflowsongs and Loros to promote and judge the competition.

No guest List can be offered to any entrants as this is a Charitable event and all profits will go to LOROS.

Door cost will be £2 at the Hind venue only. (Donations from participating Open Mics will greatly appreciated)

Entrants under 18 will need to be accompanied by an adult in each venue.

The Winners will be chosen by a panel of industry judges, their decision will be final.

Any Entrant that performs in the heats might be asked to perform for a charitable event and to record a CD for LOROS. although you are under no obligation to Sunflower Songs.
