Biography:

We met each other in our first week at Leicester Uni (October 2007), identified each other as brethren in the Quest for Music and Rhythm...started jamming, and formed a 4 piece band named Sunflower (we needed a name that could reflect our shared roots in rural pasture land). Tom sings and plays gliding guitar, Mark plays delicate drums and our freely improvisational (and extremely well-organised) friends Kate and Ben play timbrous tenor sax and business-like bass. We started gigging fairly soon after, and have been doing stuff fairly regularly ever since. At one point in around November 2008 us two upped and played some stripped down Sunflower songs (involving the basic ingredients of acoustic and bongos) on the uni radio station gert Lush FM thanks to DJ Harry. Shorty after this we began to experiment in a similar fashion, playing as a duo at the weekly DonQuixote open mic at the Donkey pub, which happens to be remarkably close to where we currently reside in Studentsville! We played around with covers, wrote some of our own tunes, and over time the bongos were phased out for a twin guitar, harmonised vocal all-out affront on the brain and senses...for which we admittedly have yet to formulate a group name for...so for now we are merely going by our first names Tom and Mark (to use our surnames Hackwell and Cardwell makes us sound slightly dubious) So there you have it, a brief but fairly descriptive account of our adventures so far....P.S Sunflower the four piece is still going strong, let us know if you have any gigs for us... x
